burnin’ daylight.

hey friends!
this week at curiosities we are gearing up for a fun spring open house with a chuck wagon style lunch, music by the ‘tiques & a john wayne impersonator, too! how fun is that?
i’m pretty pumped. i plan on setting up a western photobooth where anyone can get a fun photo with “the duke” himself. let’s just say that among the props i’ll bring, mustaches on sticks are at the top of that list.
curiosities has dressed up it’s front entry, making it feel like one stepped back into yester-year. yeehaw!
here are a few photos!
for a few more pics, please go here!
and for those of you who live in midland, i hope to see you saturday!

hey friends! sorry i’ve been so flaky–like a teenage-girl-who-can’t-decide-on-an-outfit kind of flaky–lately with my posts. i’ve gotten surprisingly busy! i do plan to give myself a somewhat strict writing and posting schedule in the near future so you guys won’t be hanging out on a limb waiting for me to post something new.
because i know so many of you are DYING to know what i’ll write next. ha.
just kidding. i mean, of course i hope you’re interested in what i post!
a n y w a y . . .
last week i had the opportunity to do something a little different with my photography. a fashion shoot with some lovely ladies modeling kiwi boutique‘s adorable clothes!
kiwi boutique is a best kept secret of boutiques in midland. hidden away in curiosities antiques–the little shop i’m doing some work for–kiwi boutique has wonderful clothes, jewelry & even items that go towards feeding the hungry.
i had so much fun with these girls! this shoot definitely stretched me a bit since i was new to this kinda of photography, posing, etc., but i was so happy that they were so patient with me! i. loved. it. and i hope they did, too!
i’m sorry if i was a little awkward in trying to express in words your poses. ha. thanks for putting up with my awkwardness!
complete.

hey folks! sorry i’ve been a little M.I.A. this week.
not only have the hus-band and i been a little under the weather, but i may or may not have been consumed in the hunger games trilogy for the past few days.

let’s just say i completed it.
and.
i.
cried.
it is so, so, so, SO good.
if you are in need of a good — and fast — read, this is the one for you. i kid you not, it’s probably THE best series i’ve ever read. and that’s an understatement.
i can’t wait until march.
why, you ask?
well, i’ll be waiting in line for the midnight showing of the hunger games like a teenage girl for the bieber movie.
even the trailer made me tear up a little. good grief. i think i might be a little too emotionally attached.
take a gander for yourself.
i just might even sport my own mockingjay garb or bow and sheath of fancy arrows.
ha. like that will get past those peacekeepers taking the movie stubs.
anyway, i encourage you to read them. suzanne collins is a genius. go get lost in the story.

in other news along the lines of completion, my project for the antique shop is up and running! i’d love for you to check it out here. let me know what you think!
they had adorable valentine’s themed decor, so i snapped a few pics to share. here’s one of a vintage ladies’ hat for you.
i could so see effie trinket sporting this.

but before i begin… let me just say, whoa! within just a few hours of my snippity-snip post, i had over 200 views! :) so, thanks for all the love yesterday, folks! it’s nice to know someone out there is reading!
anyway, as you may know, i have started doing a little graphic design and photography work for a local antique shop. it’s a learn-as-i-go type of project, one that i am extremely thankful for since i’ve always wanted to learn graphic design. this site will not be launched until the next week or so, but until then, i’d like to share with you a little bit of what i’ve been working on. last week jana, the owner of curiosities, and i met to go over the possible new logos. here’s what she decided on.
this consists of a picture of an old barn door–the one you probably were wondering about in the background of my photos yesterday…
the fonts are from kevin&amanda
and the chandelier & fleur de lis silhouettes are from a graphic database
this will be the header for the new website, and will have a thin rounded-edge rectangular border around it upon it’s final completion.
any thoughts or graphic wisdom for this newbie?
as i perused around the 18,000 square foot–yeah, it’s that big–antique mall after our meeting, i thought i’d snap a few pics to get me started for the site. there are just so many wonderful items! here are a few of the many that caught my eye.
