monday me.
May 14, 2012
today is an exciting day in our family! but you’ll have to wait a little while to hear why. so stay tuned, because i’ll be revealing the exciting deets sometime this week!
anyway, now for my monday me.
i definitely prefer one-on-one conversations over large group speeches.
and i think it’s due to the fact that i have a mild case of stage fright.
i REALLY don’t like to get up and talk in front of large crowds of people.
it NEVER fails no matter how many times i’ve done it before, i always get extremely nervous, my heart races and sometimes i even feel like i might pass out.
although, a lot of people who know me might think differently.
mainly because i spent my high school years singing in the youth praise band, but also because i’ve been told i’m a “ham” a time or two. that’s a good thing, right?
i like to think i act like that because i’m more nervous than anything, so i just make a fool of myself on purpose. and i probably over do it sometimes.
but until you really get to know me, i’m honestly a fairly shy & reserved person. or at least i think i am. zach probably thinks otherwise.
hope you have a great start to your week!

5 friday favorites.
May 11, 2012
morning friends!
sorry i’ve been so MIA this week! i’ve been super busy running around getting my ducks in a row in order to official start my photography business! yessss! i’m so excited about this big adventure and what lies ahead!
i’ve also been building my soon-to-be published website via SHOWIT. if you are considering getting a new website, i encourage you to check them out. they are so forward-thinking for photographers and creatives, and the customer service is unbeatable. i’ve only been with SHOWIT it for a week and i feel like i’m already a part of their big family. it’s awesome!
alright, so without further ado, i have some summer themed yet manly 5 friday favorites brought to you by my hus-band.
1. balmorhea state park — the san solomon spring located in the valley of the ft. davis mountains, balmorhea is truly the best kept secret of the west. think of it as a live swimming pool. with the crystal clear waters provided by the natural spring, you can swim alongside the fish, practice your scuba diving skills or conquer your fear of heights on their 15 ft diving board. you can even camp out on location with your own tent or in their little lodges on site. as a side note, one of our hometown friends started a band named after the town. balmorhea is a minimalist instrumental ensemble that incorporates the harmonies of their instruments with the everyday sounds of life. it is the perfect music to have the in background as you study, host dinner parties or soak in the bath tub. (<—that last sentence is my take on it… not zach’s. haha)
2. roundtree & york polo shirts — while we were recently on the hunt for some new work apparel, we discovered the best simple man’s work shirt in the caves of the dillard’s men’s department. these polos are soft, not itchy and very breathable. their straight-tailored ends allow you to wear the shirt casually un-tucked so you can avoid looking like a school-uniform-wearing child who must keep their shirt tucked in 24/7.

3. hastybake grill/smoker — made in USA, the hastybake‘s classic yet innovative design hasn’t changed since the 1950′s. it is extremely reliable & will withstand the test of time & weather. zach currently uses one that was his best friend’s grandfather’s. you could definitely consider it the best family heirloom that you could ever hand down to guys.
4. summer lawn concerts — for years these have been our go-to for summer entertainment. every sunday evening starting in june, you can make your way over to midland’s museum of the southwest for some local jams. from country to rock n’ roll and everything in between, these concerts are great for family outings. load up your picnic baskets, coolers, lawn chairs and blankets, and make your way over there this summer. but don’t forget the frisbee or a scooter for your kids, because there is a little area just for them to run around and play if they simply can’t sit still as you soak up the music. let’s just say it’s definitely a great way to end a weekend before the start of the long work week ahead!
look at us babies!
5. paletas — when we first discovered las paletas when i was in nashville for school, we couldn’t get enough of it. and after moving back home, we were able to find several local paleterias that were hidden around town! also known as a gourmet mexican popsicle, paletas are refreshing summer treats that are great if you can’t decide between ice cream or a snow cone. with their creamy & fruity flavors, it’s the perfect way to meet in the middle and keep everyone happy. pistachio is the all time favorite in our house. mmmm mmmmmmm!
happy friday!
giveaway winner!
May 7, 2012
morning folks! it’s been another busy weekend in my neck of the woods!
i had another great time as a second-shooter for helen! i’m so thankful for the opportunities she has opened up to me, allowing me to improve my skills & eye for photography. i am truly in awe by the way wedding photographers work. they take what they are given in any situation and make beautiful pictures out of it. i have enjoyed watching helen work as she carefully chooses locations around the venue for portrait pictures, her posing and interaction with her wonderful clients and above all her calm & collected demeanor as she tackles the big day, all while making it a smooth, easy and fun process for everyone along the way. you go girl.
ha. yes. i just said something that makes me feel like an official spice girl. and if you are asking, then yes, i did have a spice girl themed-birthday party growing up. and i’m not gonna lie. it was pretty awesome.
speaking of birthdays, i’m sure you are anxious to know who won the birthday giveaway!
thank you ALL for reading, participating, commenting, supporting & sharing your hearts, thoughts and dreams in the blog-o-sphere! i truly love being a part of this community. so, thank you for simply being you.
now, on to the goods.
i wrote out the commenter names in order of their comments, numbered them accordingly and then used the random.org number generator to determine the winner.
and the lovely winner is…………………
sarah of the healthy diva!
YAY!
congratulations, sarah! i will be emailing you shortly to get your mailing address!
thank you all again who participated! i hope to do more in the future, so stay tuned for those!
unpaved alleyways.
May 5, 2012
while all this readin’ and studyin’ of the photo biz is great, the best way to improve my photography is by getting out there and practicing.
practice. practice. practice.
well, yesterday i was hoping to have the hus-band be my guinea pig.
and after hours of begging and pleading, he finally gave in and allowed me to take his pictures. thanks, babe.
but before we went out on our photo-taking adventure, we made a stop by his sister’s house to drop off some stuff to add to their garage sale. see ya grody-ol’-hand-me-down couch!
time passed quickly and the sun was setting fast, so we made a quick change of plans and decided to simply practice a little in the alley. and once i got set up, our niece logan eagerly ran to join zach in front of the camera.
i should just ask her to be my model next time.
haha.
here’s what we got.
look at those baby blues!
ol’ bruiser-bruise wanted to join in through the hole in the fence.
i’m off to second-shoot for another wedding with the lovely helen today!
what are you up to this weekend?
p.s. don’t forget to enter in my first birthday giveaway! it ends tomorrow!
